Dr. Nikunj is a Medical Doctor, Public Health Professional and Researcher. He is working as an Assistant Professor at the Special Centre for Disaster Research, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. In the past, he has served the Govt of Gujarat as a Medical Officer and at the National Health System Resource Centre, New Delhi, as a Consultant. He has been working in the field of (i) Public Health and (ii) Disaster Management.
He has performed curative, preventive and promotive work for health care delivery to the rural population in Gujarat. He has experience in implementing National Health Policy and various Health & Family Welfare Programs, including NHM, at the grassroots level. He has organised health camps, de-addiction camps, health exhibitions, and seminars in rural areas at the grassroots level to raise awareness among people.
At the National level, he has served as a Member of a 3-member expert committee constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for framing the syllabus of the subject 'Disaster Management' for UGC-NET, a national-level examination, which is conducted to determine the Eligibility for Assistant Professor and also for the Award of Junior Research Fellowship for Indian nationals. [up on the recommendation of the expert committee, UGC has added Disaster Management as a subject through a notification dated 13th June, 2024]
He has been appointed as a Member of the Expert Committee constituted by UGC for the development and delivery of MOOCs on 'Disaster Risk Reduction' for the SWAYAM Platform. He is also contributing as an expert in the conduction of various national-level examinations.
He is an active contributor to welfare activities for students and youth. He is affiliated with many social and cultural organizations working for the betterment of society. He was a part of the Indian Youth Delegation to the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students (14-22 October, Sochi, Russia) by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
